Job description

Job Purpose 

The main objective of the role is to support the delivery of the Occupational health Service to the University of Glasgow service users, and to ensure that the provision of the Occupational health advice is at all times of the highest standard. The post holder shall ensure standards of best practice to provide a professional occupational health service, and act as an ambassador to promote Occupational Health & Wellbeing within the University.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

*         To provide professional occupational health advice to the University of Glasgow, supporting and expediting early return to work for absent employees, whenever possible, ensuring cases are actively monitored until the case has reached a satisfactory conclusion.

*         Undertake Health surveillance, including immunisations & phlebotomy as required.

*         Provide appropriate advice on health and safety issues, rehabilitation, wellbeing, and support education of employees, employers, line managers & HR.

*         Assume ongoing responsibility for the case management of employees absent from work for health-related reasons or who have health problems that may affect or be affected by their work.

*         Maintain accurate and confidential occupational health records.

*         Support the wellbeing agenda by assisting with design and delivery of health campaigns across the colleague population

*         Assist with coordination of the wellbeing offer and deliver communications and initiatives to increase engagement and usage of this.

*         Assist with contract management of key contracts and suppliers, e.g the Employee Assistance Programme.

*         Any other duties commensurate with the role as requested by the Occupational Health Manager.

*         Participate on the audit cycle of occupational health.

*         Participate in triage of occupational health referrals.

*         Supports SEQOHS activities to ensure accreditation does not lapse.

*         Responsible for procurement of clinical consumables and ensuring calibration of equipment.

*         Supports development, review of policies, procedures and associated documentation.

*         Clinical lead for health surveillance programmes.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential:

A1 Degree/ Diploma in Occupational Health and hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Ideally be registered on part 3 of NMC register.

A2 Current knowledge of health and safety employment law in relation to occupational health.

A3 Demonstrates experience within Occupational health.

A4 Have a in depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.

A5 Awareness and understanding of diversity issues.

C9 Case Management Expertise: Skilled in managing cases effectively, from initial triage through to report writing.

C10 Positive and Enthusiastic Approach: Maintains a positive attitude and fosters an encouraging work environment.

C11 Professional code of Practice: The ability to maintain personal and professional development, of self and other team members, and ensure that all interventions comply with best practice, legislative requirements and the NMC Code of Professional Practice.

C12 Computer literate, including being proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite.

 

Experience

 

Essential:

E1 Relevant work experience in a relevant Occupational Health role with qualifications.

E2 post-registration experience in relevant specialist field of nursing.

E3 A record of varied experience in OH service provision; including sickness absence report writing, rehabilitation, health surveillance, health screening and promotion of health and wellbeing.

E4 Demonstrable experience of contributing to successful health initiatives.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience of delivering health and wellbeing events.

F2 Demonstrated experience in facilitating and supporting Health Risk Assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential health-related risks effectively.

F3 Proven experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating clinical audits to ensure compliance with standards and drive quality improvement in service delivery.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £40,497 - £45,413 per annum.
