Job Purpose

 

Working as a member of a dynamic Professional Services team at the College of the Social Sciences, the Project Officer will provide comprehensive project support to the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) across research grants held by the Centre, as well as other projects as required.

 

The postholder will join UBDC, and the role will provide the opportunity to play an integral part in the success of several important projects, liaising closely with project partners in the UK and internationally. The role will be varied, and duties will include end-to-end project management, project delivery monitoring, organisation of events and capacity building programmes, external communications, coordinating project reports, planning and organisation of board meetings, and other high-level administrative duties as required.

 

This post is based at the UBDC, within the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow. The postholder will work closely with the UBDC Director and Deputy Director and report to the Research Operations Manager, as part of the College of Social Sciences Management and Professional team.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

1.  To work closely with the UBDC Director and Deputy Director, as well as multiple external project partners, to ensure the effective delivery and management of a range of research grants.

2.  Propose, organise and manage events related to specific Centre research projects, as well as assisting with the delivery of other Centre events and capacity building programmes as required.

3.  Take the lead on liaising with project researchers and partners for monitoring deliverables and project management for a range of grant-funded projects and contribute to the development and communication of outcomes and impact.

4.  To provide strategic and operational advice to the UBDC Directors as to the delivery of project priorities.

5.  Develop and maintain external communications for UBDC and its research projects, using appropriate channels and working closely with the College of Social Sciences Communications team.

6.  To organise project meetings with international and national partners and produce minutes. Assist with clerking other UBDC meetings, as required.

7.  Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of project activities and produce written reports as required.

8.  Lead on monitoring income and expenditure, and financial reporting for a range of UBDC research projects, supporting the UBDC Directors with budgetary decision-making.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level) or equivalent relevant experience

A2 Experience of personal development in a similar role, or ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s).

 

Desirable:

B1 Familiarity with the challenges of working within a complex, multi-partner research project.

B2 Knowledge and experience of the challenges and opportunities of working on equitable international collaborations.

C2 Strong project management skills, with demonstratable knowledge of end-to-end Project Management methodologies and tools.

Experience

 

Essential:

E1 Relevant practical experience in a similar or related roles with qualifications noted above, or evidence of progression and development gained through appropriate period of relevant work experience.

E2 Experience of developing, implementing and delivering projects.

E3 Experience of budgetary management and monitoring.

E4 Experience of managing project deliverables, KPIs, and writing reports.

E5 Experience of organising and managing events, and high-level meetings.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience of working in a higher education institution, ideally on complex multi-partner research projects.

F2 Experience with using software to support collaborative work and project management (e.g., MS teams, MS project, Trello, Miro, GitHub).

 

Terms and Conditions

 

Salary will be Grade 6, £33,482 - £37,174 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours per week), and has funding for up to 2 years in the first instance.
