Job description
Job purpose
To maintain and develop the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities PhD blog.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Develop the SGSAH blogging brand to promote SGSAH and doctoral research in the arts & humanities more widely.
2. Produce a minimum of one blog entry each week (300 words+).
3. Research relevant topics and angles for blog content.
4. Identify guest bloggers and schedule guest blog posts.
5. Ensure all information on the blog is accurate and current.
6. Build up blog followers to agreed targets.
7. Liaise regularly with the SGSAH team on content planning.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Skill level equivalent to achievement of Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 5 or 6 (National 5 or 6, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 or 3) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Excellent written communication skills.
C2 High standard of accuracy in writing, attention to detail and thoroughness.
C3 Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work days and weeks ahead, and to respond to changing pressures or requirements.
C4 Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently e.g. difficulty in sourcing guest bloggers.
Desirable
D1 Ability to use WordPress.com CMS.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience of developing and running a blog. Please provide link.
E2 Experience of increasing presence and reach for a blog. Please quantify.
E3 Experience of using social media to reach different communities.
E4 Experience of working independently within a larger team.
Desirable:
F1 Experience of writing and/or otherwise engaging with public debate about the PhD experience.
F2 Experience of developing a research-focused blog.
F3 Experience and regular use of social media.
Eligibility - This post is open to doctoral researchers in the Arts & Humanities, enrolled at an SGSAH member HEI. The appointed Bloggers will report to the Partnerships Manager of the SGSAH, Helen Kendrick. We expect the postholder to work largely remotely.
Application Process - Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview and will be asked to do a short task in advance, writing a 200-word blog post from information supplied.
Terms and conditions
Salary will be Grade 4, £23,581 - £26,038 per annum pro rata.
These posts are part time (5 hours per week) and offered on a fixed term basis. One post will cover 1 April 2025 to 30 September 2025 and the other from 1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026.
