Job description
Job Purpose
As part of the research team at the Microelectronics Lab (meLAB: www.melabresearch.com) within James Watt School of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the successful delivery of both the NEUROBOT project funded by ARIA and the meLAB research activities through the provision of effective and efficient administrative support.
The postholder will be responsible for implementing project objectives, delivering key outputs, and providing wide-ranging professional and organisational support to the Principal Investigator. The post will include oversight of all project activities; researching and drafting reports and presentations; interacting with key internal and external contacts; providing research support to fulfil the University’s strategic fundraising priorities and engagement functions; and proactively and independently managing key aspects of project delivery.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide project leadership through shaping and developing a practical approach to managing the Microelectronics (meLAB) Group, directly supporting the PI and working group leadership team (including the Research Technologist) to deliver research excellence and enable collaboration among research group members.
2. Ensure the effective operation, management, and administration of the projects, establishing strong internal and external partnerships and working closely with the management team to coordinate activities, meet key milestones and deliver objectives.
3. Contribute to fulfilling the Development &Alumni’s prospect research strategy by identifying, researching and rating potential donors amongst high-net-worth individuals, corporations, trusts & foundations.
4. Develop and manage the prospect pools of fundraisers. Ensure they are appropriately populated, adhere to quality standards, and facilitate dynamism in the pool through regular review and liaison with canvassers.
5. Create and use prospect research management reports to facilitate the best allocation of prospects, prospect pool management and strategic focus on capacity and inclination.
6. Employ data visualisation to analyse prospect pools for the most efficient development.
7. Work in collaboration with the staff across the Development & Alumni to maintain the fundraising database, ensuring that all prospect data is recorded in line with department processes and current regulations.
8. Research and write accurate profiles of individual, corporate and trust prospects, ensuring that briefings are tailored to suit the specific interaction.
9. Manage the allocation and spending of budget(s), where appropriate, and to provide management information, forecasting, and analysis to support project, school, college, and university requirements, as required.
10. Create and manage the Risk Register, including providing risk analysis, monitoring, and sharing lessons learnt across the team.
11. Be an active member at specific project management meetings/committees, acting as the liaison officer, communicating and coordinating activities between committees, other stakeholders, and the working groups.
12. Use specialist knowledge to prepare IP and Patents being developed by the group.
13. Lead and manage events on behalf of the team, including outreach and impact events, seminars, visits from external partners and promotional showcases.
14. Advise on proposals and projects' finances, requirements, and resource budgets, ensuring compliance with college and funder terms.
15. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the team.

Essential
A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s)
A2 Up-to-date knowledge of GDPR-compliant research methods
A3 A deep understanding of proposals and projects finance, requirements and budgets
Skills
Essential
C1 Excellent data analytical skills and proven experience in processing and manipulating large data sets using Excel.
C2 Proven high level interpersonal and communication skills including active listening, negotiating, high levels of tact, the ability to produce/present clear and concise information to a range of audiences with ability to influence.
C3 Excellent accuracy and attention to detail with good editing skills.
C4 Self-motivation and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
C5 Ability to work proactively, using initiative to anticipate and solve complex problems.
C6 Flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills and adapt within the role.

Experience
Essential
E1 Significant relevant experience in a similar prospect research role.
E2 Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar database package.
E3 Substantial experience of project work.
E4 Experience of preparing IP and patents.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £40,497 - £45,413 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week), and has funding available for up to 3 years in the first instance.
