Job description

Job Purpose

 

To lead undergraduate student recruitment marketing communications activity for the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences (MVLS), overseeing the development and ongoing enhancement of our portfolio of programmes (UG, PGT, PGR) through engagement with our academic community and colleagues across External Relations to ensure the portfolio remains competitive, relevant, and aligned with strategic priorities, student demand, and sector trends.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

1.  Working closely with the Head of Marketing & Communications (MVLS) and colleagues in External Relations, lead the development and execution of a comprehensive undergraduate recruitment marketing strategy aligned with College and University goals.

2.  Lead the strategic oversight, development, and continuous improvement of the College’s portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate research programmes.

3.  Collaborate closely with academic leads, marketing and recruitment teams (MVLS and External Relations), and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for curriculum innovation, new programme development, and enhanced student experience.

4.  Proactively present data-driven insights and reports to support and consider strategic decision-making on our portfolio, oversee market analysis and benchmarking activities, and drive initiatives that enhance the College’s reputation, student recruitment, and graduate outcomes.

5.  Lead marketing initiatives to enhance recruitment pathways with partner organisations, such as GIC and peer institutions.

6.  Work in collaboration with devolved areas within the College on UG recruitment to provide professional advice, guidance and support to enhance individual strategic marketing efforts and in-year application reporting.

7.  Create, implement, and manage multi-channel marketing campaigns to attract and increase undergraduate student applications and enrolments, focusing on key markets.

8.  Analyse market and competitor data and trends to inform student recruitment marketing decision-making and adjust campaigns to meet recruitment targets as appropriate.

9.  Line management of a small team, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development opportunities.

10.  Oversee the creation of impactful and engaging content for a variety of platforms, including digital, social media, print, and events, aimed at prospective undergraduate students.

11.  Proactively review, update and manage the College’s UG recruitment-focused web pages.

12.  Review and report on in-year application performance across our portfolio of programmes and priority markets and understand how these relate to our internal targets.

13.  Manage and deliver recruitment events and conversion activities associated with the team and offer holders to support and meet the College’s conversion objectives.

14.  Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Service.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar or related role.
A2 Significant knowledge of digital products and campaign management including SEO, paid search (including Google Ads), social media, and Google Analytics.

 

Skills

 

Essential:

C1 Proven ability to generate original and innovative ideas in delivering creative campaigns to meet strategic objectives.
C2 Excellent copy writing, print management, and T4 or other web content management skills.

C3 Excellent project management and strong organisational skills with the ability to create and deliver on short-term and medium-to long-term project goals.

C4 Proven ability to manage several complex tasks and projects simultaneously, meeting tight timescales whilst applying a high degree of accuracy.

C5 Excellent influencing and negotiating skills – ability to foster strong relationships with internal clients.

C6 Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.

C7 Proven capability of working on a proactively basis and using own initiative.

C8 Excellent report writing skills – proven ability to create bespoke reports using specialist knowledge and evidence, applying a high level of attention to detail.

C9 Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with an ability to engage with and build productive working relationships with colleagues.

 

Experience

 

Essential:

E1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar or related role(s).

E2 Significant experience in Google Analytics.

E3 Excellent experience of planning, launching, managing, optimising, and analysing paid digital marketing lead generation campaigns, using Google Search, social media, native and display advertising.

E4 Experience of working independently, thinking analytically, and applying sound judgment.
E5 Strong experience of creating, implementing, and adapting marketing plans to meet strategic objectives.

E6 Excellent experience in optimising landing pages and user funnels, including using tools such as analytics, heatmapping, and A/B testing.

E7 Strong experience of delivering successful e-communications activity.

E8 Experience of working in a Higher Education institution.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience of team management.

 

Terms and Conditions

 

Salary will be Grade 7, £40,497 - £45,413 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
