Job description
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Internal Communications and Engagement Lead within the Strategic Delivery Team, this role will be responsible for assisting in the creation of effective internal communication plans, working closely with the projects, services, and strategies on a day-to-day basis. Actively engage with multiple stakeholders within projects and be responsible for the creation and deployment of a variety of communication assets and approaches, delivered in a targeted way via multiple channels, and compliant with University of Glasgow brand guidelines and values framework.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist in the planning and implementation of effective internal communications and engagement strategies and plans for a variety of transformative strategies and projects, including Transformation and Information Services.
2. Ensure a targeted approach, with clear, insight-driven messaging for multiple University audiences delivered via the most appropriate media channels.
3. Help to shape and deploy project specific communications and engagement assets and approaches that are aligned with the University of Glasgow brand and values framework.
4. Champion and support digital channels and innovative routes to engagement including social media, video, blog, and online events.
5. Applying specialist knowledge and experience to provide internal communications and engagement advice and support to the portfolio and project teams and others as required.
6. Assist in defining success criteria for communications and engagement plans in conjunction with change leads, monitoring and improving performance continuously.
7. Deputise for the Senior Project Manager when required.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a senior role(s).
A2 Previous knowledge and proven track record in the delivery of internal communications and engagement and/or change management with demonstrable success.
A3 Previous knowledge and experience working in a project-based environment.
Desirable:
B1 IOIC Accreditation (Institute of Internal Communications).
B2 CIPR Membership or Accreditation (Chartered Institute of Public Relations).
Skills
Essential:
C1 Previous professional experience contributing to major communication and engagement strategies in public/private sector.
C2 Superb written and verbal communication skills including experience of presenting to large audiences and facilitation of workshops. This should also include skills using on-line tools such as Zoom, Mural, Miro, etc.
C3 Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, in particular the ability to handle a wide range of contacts tactfully and able to influence towards positive and constructive outcomes.
C4 Experience of working with people and a range of audiences at different levels through the organisation containing experienced professionals. This includes being able to influence and persuade stakeholders of appropriate courses of action that may have University wide implications.
C5 Problem Solving and organisational skills, including the ability to identify and deliver rapid interventions and solutions.
C6 Excellent IT skills.
C7 Social media awareness and ability to plan, post and listen social media content.
C8 Web management, editing and experience in using Content Management Systems is required. This will include the ability to create digital content, produce videos and play a leading role in content development.
C9 Excellent organisational and planning skills.
C10 Management report writing and data analytics, including the ability to track and report on communication and engagement progress.
C11Ability to work in or understand agile methodologies and the ability to maintain a strong insight and awareness across the programme.
C12 Experience in refinement of communication and engagement capabilities and tools, including new and innovative ways of engaging student and staff.
C13 Personal style compatible and consistent with University Values.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Track record of experience and success in professional stakeholder capacity in internal communications or change management related communications.
E2 Track record of employee engagement methods, and face to face communication strategies.
Desirable:
F1 Familiarity with business improvement processes.
F2 Knowledge of the higher education sector.
F3 Awareness of agile ways of working.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,482 - £37,174 per annum.
This post is full time and fixed term for up to 2 years from agreed start date.
