Job Purpose

As a Case Manager you will provide professional support to the Student Conduct Team as the hub of student conduct management for the University. Working in partnership with Colleges, Schools and Services you will ensure student conduct matters are managed effectively in line with the University’s Code of Student Conduct and support our strategic objectives in relation to the student experience.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide expert advice and support across the University community and, where necessary, to those external to the University regarding any issue covered by the Code of Student Conduct.

2. Deliver professional and effective case management of a high volume of student conduct cases (non-academic and academic) ensuring that cases are dealt with efficiently, effectively, and sensitively in adherence with the stated procedures. This will include, but is not limited to:

a. Organising, attending and minuting student conduct investigative meetings, risk assessment groups and advise and brief Senate Assessors (academic misconduct) and Investigative Officers (non-academic misconduct) in preparation for investigation.

b. Undertaking preparatory work for conduct appeals including the drafting of complex documentation, attending and minuting Senate Student Conduct Committees, and preparing outcome reports and letters to ensure clear communication to students and their representatives.

3. Work in partnership with colleagues across the University to ensure the Code of Student Conduct is applied fairly and equitably in each case under consideration, both in relation to academic and non-academic conduct cases.

4. Work in partnership with colleagues in Student Learning Development to develop and promulgate best academic practice amongst our student population in relation to all areas of academic integrity.

5. Together with colleagues in the Student Conduct Team, play a leading role in the co-ordination of advice and guidance to ensure the Code of Student Conduct is understood by all parties across the University, and that conduct issues are routed correctly and dealt with timeously.

6. As part of the Student Conduct Team assume joint responsibility for the management of our new case management system to ensure that accurate and up-to-date data on conduct matters is readily available and contribute to regular reporting to senior institutional level committees, and to University senior management when necessary.

7. Contribute to the ongoing review, revision, development and implementation of the Student Code of Conduct and associated processes, procedures and systems, promoting best practice and supporting the dissemination of information, advice and guidance across the University.

8. Contribute to the planning and delivery of training for all stakeholders involved in the delivery of the Code of Student Conduct on behalf of the Student Conduct Team.

9. Attend and contribute to meetings across the wider Directorate as required.

10. Undertake any other duties as directed by the Head of Student Conduct.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4) or equivalent..

A2 Knowledge and understanding of current Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation.

A3 Knowledge and understanding of the organisation and administration of higher education in the UK.

A4 Knowledge and understanding of the governance, organisational structure and systems within the University of Glasgow.

 

Desirable:

B1 Operational knowledge and understanding of University of Glasgow regulations, particularly the Code of Student Conduct and other related policies.

B2 Knowledge of developing, implementing and improving administrative systems and processes.

 

Skills

Essential:

C1 Ability to work proactively and independently, setting own priorities and targets, and using initiative to solve problems.

C2 Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.

C3 Highly developed and proven interpersonal skills with a wide range of stakeholders.

C4 High degree of IT literacy including familiarity with remote working technology.

C5 A high standard of written and oral communication skills.

C6 Excellent planning and organisational skills; able to multi-task, work under pressure and manage tight deadlines whilst maintaining attention to detail.

C7 Ability to facilitate change effectively.

C8 Tact, confidentiality, diplomacy and discretion.

 

Desirable:

D1 Ability to contribute to development of IT systems to support the automation of accurate reporting of data relating to conduct cases.

D2 Ability to initiate and lead process improvement and change management activities.

 

Experience

Essential:

E1 Experience of providing professional secretariat support to formal committees including writing complex minutes and reports.

E2 Experience of working with and managing complex processes.

E3 Experience of delivering efficient and high-quality service to external stakeholders and colleagues.

E4 Experience of Case Management.

 

Desirable:

F1 Previous, direct experience of academic administration and knowledge of higher education.

F2 Experience of working with regulatory codes for students e.g. Conduct, Complaints or Appeals.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £40,497 - £45,413 per annum.
