Job description

Job Purpose

To provide professional support in academic quality management and enhancement activity across the University’s Academic Quality Framework (AQF). To provide informed advice and support across the University, managing the activities; and contributing to the review and development of process.

 

To provide professional support in other areas as required, for example, quality related developments resulting from the Learning & Teaching Strategy, thus supporting the administration and management of the functional area of Standards & Quality within the Academic Policy & Governance (APG) division of Academic Services.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide specialist advice, support, and coordination for the effective implementation of processes within the University's Academic Quality Framework (AQF) across all Colleges and Schools. This includes responsibilities for influencing and refining these processes to align with the University's AQF and adhere to sector standards.

2. Lead on the development and operational management of designated activities within the Academic Standards & Quality team. Key responsibilities include overseeing areas such as Student Feedback and Representation, Student-Facing Service Review, Annual Quality & Enhancement Review, External Examining, and Periodic Subject Review. These duties involve identifying trends, analysing data, driving informed decision-making, implementing process improvements, offering expert advice, training stakeholders and effectively managing stakeholder relationships.

3. To provide specialist guidance to the Colleges on quality assurance and enhancement systems to ensure the University maintains and enhances our high quality of learning & teaching provision. In collaboration with relevant College colleagues, lead in the development and adoption of policies relating to University quality assurance systems and processes.

4. Manage the business of committees and working groups engaged in policy and governance, working closely with conveners and other stakeholders.

5. Collaborate with colleagues across APG to support the implementation of the University’s Learning & Teaching Strategy, particularly within the areas of Quality Assurance and Enhancement.

6. Contribute to the work and development of the Standards & Quality functional area and wider Academic Services division. This may include such activity as support for student facing policy development and Learning & Teaching Funding Schemes. Actively participate in team meetings and business and contribute to planning processes.

7. Represent the University at meetings of national bodies and at conferences to maintain up-to-date knowledge of national developments and to gain and share information, knowledge and working practices from and with colleagues across the higher education sector.

8. Undertake other duties as assigned by APG management team.

 

Knowledge/Qualifications/Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential: 

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or a number of different specialist roles or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).

A2 Knowledge of the organisation and administration of higher education in the UK including quality enhancement and quality assurance.

 

Desirable: 

B1 Detailed knowledge and understanding of University QA procedures.

B2 Good knowledge of the structure and systems within the University of Glasgow.

B2 Knowledge of the University of Glasgow Learning & Teaching Strategy.

B3 Knowledge of the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act and the Equality Act.

Experience

Essential: 

E1  Experience of interpreting and providing advice on regulations/policies, practices and procedures.

E2 Experience in contributing to quality management in a professional environment.

E2 Experience of clerking meetings and drafting reports.

E3 Experience of managing complex processes.

E4 Experience of using and managing databases.

 

Desirable: 

F1 Previous, direct experience in educational administration or a similar environment.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £40,497 - £45,413 per annum.

 

This post is full time and open ended.
