Job description
Job Purpose
The IT Service Resilience Analyst will report into the CoSE (College of Science and Engineering) IT Service Resilience Manager and plays a crucial role in ensuring the College of Science and Engineering (CoSE) can effectively recover its locally managed IT infrastructure in the event of major incidents. This position involves working closely with IT professionals within CoSE as well as the Cyber Security Team within University Services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Using the Ivanti Helpdesk system to record Incidents or Service Requests that are assigned to the Resilience function, manage those tickets and identify trends and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
2. Contribute to the delivery of a Service Resilience function within the CoSE IT Service, collaborating with the Resilience Manager to ensure well-maintained and managed IT services in accordance with University policies and industry best practices in areas of security, backup & recovery, business continuity.
3. Provide expert installation, configuration, and maintenance of a secure, robust server infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, database servers, storage systems and cloud-based platforms to improve the vulnerability profile of the CoSE IT estate.
4. Be proactive in supporting the CoSE IT team in implementing the University’s security policies, guidelines, and best practices within CoSE IT systems to minimise risk and ensure the resilience of College IT services.
5. Conduct analysis and provide results/reports to the Service Resilience Manager to support technical and financial decision making.
6. Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps, maintaining comprehensive records and knowledge base articles to facilitate knowledge sharing, training, and continuity of operations.
7. Any other duties and projects which may from time to time be required by the Line Manager or Head of College IT.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.
Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Excellent knowledge of information security best-practice in a heterogeneous networked environment.
A3 Strong understanding of server and network administration concepts.
A4 In depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and/or Linux/Unix operating systems.
Desirable:
B1 Industry-recognised professional qualifications in relevant field, such as CompTIA A+.
B2 Experience of an environment which uses Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus or ISO27000-1.
B3 Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and threats within the IT Security sector.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Extensive knowledge and practical experience of operating systems and software, within a networked environment, such as Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Linux and mobile device management (MDM) applications.
C2 Significant analytical skills and logical approach when investigating IT security related issues, and suitably recording steps being conducted for subsequent reporting and future guidance to other IT staff and users.
C3 Specialist technical and practical knowledge of IT security, including risk assessment, incident response, and disaster recovery.
C4 Ability to work independently or collaboratively within an IT Team, providing guidance to junior staff.
Desirable:
D1 Excellent stakeholder relationship management skills.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Substantial experience providing IT support in a complex IT environment supporting users from multiple disciplines, including multiple end-user devices, servers, storage systems, and workstations.
Desirable:
F1 Experience working with vulnerability and security monitoring dashboards.
F2 Experience using a programming language such as Java, Python, C#, or similar languages and shell scripting.
F3 Previous experience of working in an audit / assurance capacity within an IT environment.
F4 Experience working with databases and database management concepts.
F5 Prior experience of working in a university or Higher Education environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,232 - £36,924 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
