Job description
The School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Biomedical Science (Learning, Teaching & Scholarship) to contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by undertaking a range of teaching, assessment and administrative duties, at undergraduate level, in relation to the early years curriculum of Undergraduate Medicine at Glasgow University and as requested by the Programme Director/Head of Subject, in order to contribute to learning and teaching objectives in the School of Undergraduate Medicine.
The Undergraduate Medical School sits in the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing and is renowned for pioneering teaching methods and superb facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate study. The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing is part of the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences.
Job Purpose
To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by undertaking a range of teaching, assessment and administrative duties, at undergraduate level, in relation to the early years curriculum of Undergraduate Medicine at Glasgow University and as requested by the Programme Director/Head of Subject, in order to contribute to learning and teaching objectives in the School of Undergraduate Medicine.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of undergraduate teaching.
2. Deliver a range of teaching including problem based learning and lab-based learning alongside assessment activities directed towards the delivery of subjects at undergraduate level.
3. Participate in a range of course administration duties, within required timescales, including effective communication of information, marking, assessment and timeous constructive feedback.
4. Assist with the development of appropriate teaching materials ensuring content and methods of delivery meet determined learning objectives.
5. Contribute to the effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended.
6. Apply specialist knowledge to teaching that best meet the needs of individuals and groups of learners, ensuring an inclusive and evidence-based approach that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
7. Participate in the full assessment process using a variety of methods and techniques, including oral assessment, and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students that supports their learning.
8. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
9. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
10. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1. SCQF Level 12 [PhD] in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent in a related discipline and/or teaching experience.
A2. Sufficient breadth and/or depth of knowledge in one or more of the biomedical science disciplines and of teaching methods and techniques to work within the subject area.
A3. Thorough knowledge and ability to apply policy, practice and procedures including broader University and Sector (medical education) awareness.
A4. Up-to-date knowledge and specialist understanding in the field with an ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students to inspire learning and of providing pastoral care to students.
Desirable
B1. Professional teaching qualification or working towards one.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £40,247 - £45,163 per annum pro rata.
This post is part time, 17.5 hours per week working over 2.5 days and fixed term for up to 12 months.
