Job description
Job Purpose
To provide research management support across the College of MVLS encompassing pre- and post-award support, with a primary focus on post-award. You will provide proactive support to academic staff and Project Co-ordinators (PCs) in the financial administration of research grants and contracts.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide effective oversight and financial management of all research grant budgets within designated portfolio(s) within Schools and across the College working closely with the Project Co-ordinators and Research Support Administrators, to resolve issues, provide specialised advice in line with the terms and conditions of funding bodies.
2. Provide line management to the Research Support Administrators (circa. 3-4); to oversee the delivery of service and review team activities to align with Schools.
3. Responsible for monitoring post award expenditure against budget, which involves resolving project and financial queries, highlighting potential issues to the Principal Investigator and Project Coordinator, and liaising with the Central Research Support Office to ensure maximum funds are claimed from funders.
4. To work closely with, and proactively advise, Principal Investigators on salary and non-salary budgets when necessary.
5. To continually monitor revised budgets caused by changes in salary and/or other resource allocation changes to report and identify any impact these changes may have on the grant/contract.
6. To proactively provide and engage with Project Co-ordinators and academics on information/data for the interpretation of data management reports.
7. Responsible for reviewing award final expenditure which involves, resolving issues and reconciling project budgets whilst working closely with the Principal Investigator and Project Co-ordinator to ensure that the funder’s terms and conditions are adhered to.
8. Contribute and support Project Coordinators and Principal Investigators in the preparation of funding applications (i.e. prepare accurate costings, collate and upload required information and documents on to our systems).
9. To assist key colleagues with financial audits and data requests, ensuring that accurate information is provided and records/databases are kept updated accordingly. 10. To continually monitor, review and implement changes to systems to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of post award management within the College. 11. To provide clear support and guidance to all levels of staff on research and contract financial management information. Including training of new and existing staff on key financial software and processes as required.
12. To lead the setup and maintenance of the Research Management Team webpages identifying application processes, funding opportunities, key contacts, etc. and to work with existing school teams to update deadlines regularly, undertake searches using Research Professional and other sources for funding opportunities.
13. To undertake any other duties as required by the line manager.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2. Experience in management of financial accounts in University, private and/or public sector.
A3. Knowledge and high-level experience of financial processes and systems (e.g. Agresso) ideally in a University environment i.e. running transaction reports and balance queries for projects.
A4. Knowledge of funding application processes and funder guidelines.
Desirable:
B1. Detailed knowledge of Higher Education research administration.
B2. Operational knowledge of University of Glasgow business systems
B3. Website development experience, specifically using the T4 system.
B4. Experience in using Agresso Research Costing & Pricing for project set up.

E2. Dealing with accounts and running enquiries on finance systems (e.g. Agresso).
E3. Experience of processing and analysing data with high degree of numerical and data accuracy.
E4. Producing metrics for reporting purposes.
E5. Preparing and assisting with grant claims and reports.
E6. Experience of successfully overseeing the work of staff.
Desirable:
F1. Line management or supervisory experience.
F2. Experience of Higher Education environment.
F3. Experience of research administration processes and funders.
F4. Understanding of Full Economic costing
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,232 - £36,924 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
