Job description

Job Purpose

 

To lead on the development and implementation of delivering an effective and efficient Quality Management System across the Genomics Innovation Alliance. You will work closely with the NHS GGC Laboratory Genetics Quality Department and be responsible for providing specialist expertise, guidance and advice to key stakeholders ensuring compliance with operational processes, working practices and technical understanding of specific areas meet service requirements.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

1. Responsible for ensuring a consistent and effective Quality Management System is maintained across the Genomics Innovation Alliance and ensuring this is in line with the NHS GGC Laboratory Genetics Quality Management System, with scope to maximise service delivery, efficiency and continuity.

2. Act as main point of contact for the laboratory management team and other key stakeholders by providing specialist advice and expertise on quality management matters, policies and procedures, laboratory equipment and machinery to ensure compliance is followed across the provision.

3. Lead on the design and implementation to ensure compliance with International Standards, United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) guidelines are met (e.g., to maintain service quality, health and safety and waste management).

4. Play a leading role on the review of policies, procedures, legislative requirements and working practices to ensure full compliance and operational standards are being met to meet service requirements.

5. To provide supervision, training and support to colleagues and students as appropriate; promoting a culture of quality service, compliance and improvements within a positive working environment across the service provision.

6. Responsible for effective monitoring and reviews of all internal and external Quality Assurance/ Control processes, overseeing the maintenance and control of records/documents, and taking appropriate remedial actions and/or escalating issues as and when appropriate.

7. To provide specialist knowledge and expertise on quality management reviews and indicators data presenting and/or reporting on the results as well as outing forward appropriate objectives and recommendations to improve and/or enhance quality.

8. To lead on the production and completion of providing detailed reports, data/information analysis on outputs; to ensure the accuracy of the data being utilised and to provide management information on the outputs and impact of the data.

9. Play a significant role in contributing to committee meetings, lecturers, seminars.

10. Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance both specialist and transferable skills as required.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).

A2. Through knowledge and understanding of UKAS Accreditation. ISO Standards, GCLP, GCP.

 

Desirable:

B1. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council or equivalent.

B2. A Quality Management qualification such as the IBM Certificate in Expert Practice in Quality Management or ISO 15189:2022 assessor training.

B3. Knowledge of clinical governance.

Experience

Essential:

E1. Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles.

E2. Proven experience of establishing and managing Standard Operating Procedures and working practices to ensure the smooth, efficient and legal running of a laboratory (e.g., health and safety, legal requirements).

E3. Experience of using quality management systems (e.g., Q-Pulse) or equivalent.

E4. Excellent IT skills with proven ability to use Microsoft packages (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

E5. Experience analysing complex data and presenting results using different presentation formats (e.g., tables, reports, presentations).

E6. Experience conducting and/or preparing information for internal/external audits.

E7. Experience of risk management and governance.

 

Desirable:

F1. Previous experience of laboratory diagnostics techniques and equipment.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £40,247 - £45,163 per annum.

 

This post is full time, and open ended with funding for up to 12 months from start date.
