Job description

Job Purpose

To support the development, rollout and ongoing delivery of fully online courses, micro-credentials and blended courses across the University, working closely with academics to influence course design and advise in the creation of digital materials. Providing consultancy and advice to all staff members in the successful use of learning technologies and develop pedagogically sound solutions across a range of delivery modes.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Work in partnership with academics on the programme / course design cycle, ensuring learning technology solutions and platform provided support the pedagogical delivery.

2. Assist Schools and Institutes to achieve objectives by identifying digital opportunities, providing a process for delivery while supporting upskilling and knowledge transfer activities

3. Provide pedagogic advice, guidance, encouragement and support regarding the design and construction of online programmes and courses, ensuring tested instructional design theories, practice and methods are deployed.

4. Create active learning activities and compelling content, through a range of media and multi-model delivery options

5. Based on user needs, produce guidance, and participate in demonstrations and upskilling sessions provided to academic staff on the use of the digital technologies needed in teaching, learning and assessment.

6. Design and implement processes to streamline service delivery and online activity to enable the university to develop a consistent and scalable approach to online and digital learning.

7. Review and adapt course content post-delivery, to ensure consistency and alignment with our learning design approach and templates.

8. Conduct instructional evaluation and analysis on learners and contexts.

9. Activity participate in appropriate university groups and committees in relation with digital education and online learning.

10. Keep up to date with developments in learning technologies in Higher Education and beyond in order to improve and enhance learning technologies support provision and influence local and university-wide decisions in this area.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or, Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, [Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4], or equivalent [including professional accreditation with relevant formal training], and experience of personal development in a similar or related role.

A2 Knowledge of the functionalities of Virtual Learning Environments [VLE] or Massive Online Open Course [MOOC] platforms, including those related to course creation and design.

A3 Expertise relating to pedagogical concepts, curriculum mapping and assessment planning.

A4 Knowledge and understanding of pedagogical theories relating to the use of technology- enhanced learning.

A5 Up to date understanding of digital accessibility guidance and its application in learning and teaching.

 

Desirable:

B1 Deep knowledge of e-learning rapid authoring tools such as Camtasia, Captivate or Articulate.

B2 A good understanding of capturing and editing multimedia, such as video and MP3.

B3 Expert knowledge of designing, building and maintaining courses at scale in recent versions of Moodle.

C14 Ability to review and evaluate courses to ensure they are effective.

 

Experience

Essential:

E1 Relevant experience with Degree, or less experience with a Higher degree, or evidence of progression and development through substantial, relevant experience.

E2 Relevant experience in a digital learning development role.

E3 Experience of organising and running events such as seminars, workshops and dissemination events.

E4 Experience of developing creative materials to support and enhance the use of tools designed to enhance learning.

E5 Experience of providing specialist advice and information relating to technology-enabled learning to a wide range of audiences with different levels of technological knowledge.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience in creating Massive Open Online Courses [MOOCs].

F2 Evidenced experience of project management and design at the level of programme, course and activity.

F3 Experience using web conferencing software.

F4 Experience in video, audio capturing and editing.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £40,247 - £45,163 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and fixed term to 29 January 2027.
