Job Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about the health and wellbeing from the Black and Caribbean community, particularly in Glasgow where this role will be based. You will be working with a diverse team of researchers and practitioners from multiple institutions and community-based organisations, and as a Recruitment Coordinator you will be a key member of the team.
Screening tests for illnesses like breast, bowel, cervical cancer, and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) can save lives. However, individuals from ethnic minority groups, particularly Black African and Caribbean people, have been found to participate less in these screenings. This means that Black African and Caribbean people may be more likely to discover illnesses too late for optimal treatment. We want to improve that. Therefore, we are conducting a study to investigate a co-designed, faith-based and peer-led intervention to improve breast, bowel, cervical and AAA screening uptake among Black African and Caribbean communities in the UK. The aim is to improve screening uptake within these communities. The project will recruit people living in the North East of England, Scotland and Leeds.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and approachable individual as Community Recruitment Coordinator for the Glasgow-based study recruitment and data collection. The main purpose of the role is to support the recruitment of research participants in Glasgow and across Scotland. You will be part of the relevant communities and have existing links. This role is important to the success of the study, as you will be responsible for engaging with potential participants and supporting them through the recruitment process. You will be making links with multiple stakeholders in the community, such as community and religious leaders to support recruitment and data collection.
You will be working with a diverse team from multiple institutions and relevant community-based organisations, and as Community Recruitment Coordinator you will be a key member of the team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Act as the Glasgow-based Recruitment Coordinator the project by contributing to the planning, development and delivery of a recruitment strategy in accordance with the trial objectives and the School of Health and Wellbeing research strategy.
2. Facilitate links to the community and recruitment of research participants by providing support, advice and recommendations within the context of the recruitment process to ensure appropriate participants are recruited.
3. Facilitate the recruitment and maintenance of the Public Involvement Community Engagement (PICE) group.
4. Perform administrative tasks related to documenting the recruitment process including maintaining accurate records and participant information in compliance with ethical guidelines, and contributing data to progress reports and papers.
5. Assist with data collection (e.g. distribute questionnaires and re-connect with research participants for follow-up data)
6. Attend and participate in research meetings relating to recruitment progress and sometimes assist with running these (e.g., taking minutes).
7. Active management of all correspondence relating to the Recruitment of participants to the project.
8. Collaborate with internal/external colleagues in organising and participating in seminars and workshops to enhance wider knowledge and outputs to meet project goals.
9. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by suggesting service improvements and implementing new processes to enhance quality of service.
10. Engage in reasonable professional development activities as appropriate.
11. Undertake and other reasonable duties as required by the team.
12. Flexibility regarding time will be required. There will also be some travel for data collection.
Qualifications/Knowledge
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this post, having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.
A2 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 7 [Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3, Higher National Certificate] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

C1 Have strong links, and experience of working in partnership, with Black African and Caribbean communities in Scotland (through paid and/or voluntary roles).
C2 Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and build rapport with various and diverse audiences, operating with diplomacy and discretion.
C3Ability to plan, organise and prioritise effectively, respond to changes in demands and/or pressures, delivering work to standard and within deadlines.
C4 Ability to work both independently and flexibly as part of a high performing team with excellent stakeholder management skills.
Experience
Essential
E1 Experience of keeping records/logs of information which are accurate, thorough and stored securely
E2 Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Packages (e.g., including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneDrive is essential).
E3 Experience of applying judgement, policies, and procedures.
Additional information
Travel Study participants will be recruited from Glasgow and across Scotland as required. Some travel will be required. Ability to travel by own car is desirable (reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed).
Flexible working will be required. It may be necessary to work some evenings or weekends to effectively promote and undertake participant recruitment. The job is 2 days per week (0.4FTE) – ideally one of these days will be consistent, when the other day’s hours are worked may vary – this is something we will discuss with candidates at interview.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 5, £26,338 - £30,805 per annum.
This post is part time (14 hours per week) and open ended with funding available up until 28th February 2027.
