Ali Salik Organic Geochemistry Technician/Technician Commitment Co-Ordinator

My professional journey has progressed from modern apprentice in 2012, through technician and senior analytical technician to lab manager. And in 2021 I was appointed as the University's Technician Commitment Coordinator. Currently, I balance both roles, contributing to the University's commitment to technical excellence.

I contributed to cutting-edge environmental research initiatives facing the challenges of climate change.

Alison Wallace Deputy Director of College Professional Services, College of MVLS

I started in 2000 with a temporary role, before being promoted to departmental manager, Head of Academic and Student Administration and my current post in September 2023.

My career highlight is the fantastic colleagues I have had over the years who have made the work and the University a great place to be.

Alison Wallace
Craig Daly Professor of Physiology, School of Cardiovasular & Metabolic Health

I began as a Trainee Technician at the University of Glasgow in July 1980, progressing through the technical career ladder, reaching Grade 6 by the early 1990s due to my experience working in a research lab.In 1994, I transitioned from technical to academic roles, becoming a Research Associate while completing a part-time PhD. After earning my PhD, I advanced to Research Fellow, achieving Grade 8 on today’s scale, and latterly was ultimately promoted to senior lecturer and professor. I served on the University Court (2019-23) as a Union Rep .

Having started as a trainee technician, to then be a trustee of the organisation was something that my 17-year-old self could never have imagined.

Ann Hastings HR Operations Manager

I have worked at the University of Glasgow all of my adult life and still love working in such a diverse environment with super bright people. Looking back, my highlights are all the jobs I have done although moving to People and Organisational Development was a revelation (in a good way!!).

I love the University of Glasgow and could not imagine having worked anywhere else.
