Job description
Job Purpose
To play a key role in the operational delivery of an outstanding customer experience, utilising physical activity, exercise and event programmes to positively embed University of Glasgow (UofG) Sport at the core of holistic wellbeing for students, staff and community users.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Improve and enhance the physical activity levels and wellbeing of UofG students, staff and community members through the creation, development and delivery of an integrated series of activities. This will include group exercise classes, exercise consultations and inductions, one to one referrals, events and initiatives such as Learn 2, Desk to 3K, and Get Back to Fitness.
2. Commit to maintaining high standards of teaching delivery and ensure that knowledge of industry developments and trends is kept current through continuing professional development.
3. Proactively support the exercise and training requirements of UofG students, staff and community members through a regular presence across gym floor areas, and the use of digital tools.
4. As directed by the Active Lifestyle Manager, deliver designated administrative aspects of the UofG Sport programme. This may include staff/freelance instructor timetabling, line management of Active Lifestyle Fitness Coaches, onboarding of freelance instructors, and liaising with Personal Trainers.
5. Support Active Lifestyle colleagues by contributing towards the evaluation of the service programme to ensure it meets and responds to the needs of its wide customer base and has strategic fit with UofG Sport objectives:
a. Prepare reports that review and evaluate the quality of service and customer satisfaction within work area. Discuss findings ensuring it meets the needs of its customer base and adopts a ‘Student First’ approach.
b. Identify long-term trends, taking action to maximise service quality.
6. Develop the partnership between UofG Sport and Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA):
a. Through regular meetings, provide guidance and support to the GUSA President and GUSA Convenors to deliver a series of student welfare events supporting different campaigns.
b. Provide integrated service provision to maximise student involvement towards meeting World Health Organisation weekly physical activity targets.
c. Play a role in being the promotional interface for UofG Sport and GUSA, including being involved in Open Days, Welcome Week and other events.
7. Proactively engage and communicate with internal and external customers to provide an outstanding customer experience.
8. As directed by the Active Lifestyle Manager, establish, maintain and develop links with key internal and external departments and organisations that will allow added value and quality to the UofG Sport service provision and programme. These include, but are not limited to, Counselling & Wellbeing Services, Occupational Health, various University departments and schools, Scottish Student Sport (SSS) and sportscotland.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications Essential:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 7 (Higher, VQ3, HNC) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role or; Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s).
A2 Strong portfolio of recognised qualifications in active lifestyle related areas. Examples of qualifications and awards include Level 2 Group Exercise, Gym Instructor, Kettlebells, Yoga, Pilates, UKSCA, other recognised Level 3 and Level 4 Industry qualifications for example Exercise Referral, Ante/Post Natal, Designing Exercise for Disabled Clients.
A3 Demonstrable evidence of commitment to continued professional development and extending range of knowledge and qualifications in the area of sport and exercise.
A4 Detailed practical knowledge of MS Office products, email and the internet.
A5 Current Emergency First Aid Qualification (or ability to complete this within three months).
Desirable:
B1 Level 2 Mental Health Awareness.
B2 Mental Health First Aid.
B3 Good awareness of the UofG Sport programme and services offered, particularly in the Active Lifestyle area.
B4 Understanding of University Structure.

Experience
Essential:
E1 Relevant experience working with adults/groups in a health/fitness/wellbeing environment with above qualifications or evidence of progression and development gained through significant work experience.
E2 Demonstrable experience in teaching a wide range of exercise and physical activity classes.
Desirable:
F1 Experience of working in a university sporting environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 5, £26,038 - £30,505 per annum.
This post is full time and fixed term to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months from start date or until the substantive post holder returns.
Working patterns vary between 7am and 7pm
